The Kaweah Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP)
MLRP is a program that provides funding to help transition irrigated agricultural lands to less water intensive uses while also providing economic, environmental, and community benefits.
The Kaweah Delta Water Conservation District and regional partners received a $10 million block grant in 2022 from the Department of Conservation (DOC) to design and administer the MLRP in the Kaweah Subbasin. The program invites landowners, communities, and other local stakeholders to help shape regional planning efforts and design multibenefit projects that reduce reliance on groundwater while supporting a viable agricultural economy and improving community and environmental health outcomes.

More About MLRP
The California Department of Conservation (DoC) established the Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP) to incentivize multibenefit land repurposing in overdrafted groundwater subbasins across California. The program recognizes the impacts of imbalanced water supplies and the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) on local communities and economies. Learn more about the MLRP.
Funding Opportunities
The Kaweah MLRP is releasing a solicitation for Development Projects in Spring 2025, which will provide funding for project planning, design, and permitting. Projects must align with the MLRP program goals of reducing reliance on groundwater while providing additional benefits to the environment, communities, and/or the local economy. Project benefits must have a minimum duration of 10 years. Learn more about the solicitation and technical assistance available.
Inclusive Planning Process
The Kaweah MLRP is an inclusive and collaborative effort that includes a core group of program partners along with key stakeholders representing local communities, farmers, conservation organizations, and many others.
